From Thevenin to IBIS — Interfacing Digital to Analog w/ Ste Kulov.
The goal of this class/workshop is to learn how to properly interface digital outputs to the analog world. To start off, we will review the fundamentals, which is something called “Thevenin’s Theorem”. This incredibly powerful tool allows us to greatly simplify complex circuits and approximate unknown circuits. After getting a grasp of it, we’ll apply this tool to modern digital integrated circuits (ICs), which can be anything from microcontrollers, FPGAs, ASICs, or even 74x00 series discrete logic chips. The process gets simplified further by applying IBIS (I/O Buffer Information Specification) models, which are provided by digital IC manufacturers.

Ste Kulov is an owner and design engineer at HD Retrovision LLC, which specializes in interfacing legacy analog video to modern displays. He is a SPICE simulation & electronic circuit modeling enthusiast.
