Sewing machine maintenance Tuesday 1 October at 7 PM

Bring your sewing machine to the PS1 lounge at 7:00 PM on Tuesday, 1 October to get it running its best.

Do you have a sewing machine you rescued from a rummage sale but don’t know how to thread? or a machine that just isn’t running as well as you remember? Would you like to learn to do routine maintenance on your machine, or practice it somewhere you can ask for help if you get stuck? Then this is the event for you.

This is a public event, it is open to non-members.

Please respond via meetup if you can: Sewing Machine Maintenance

Hi David, besides maintenance, is there any instruction on sewing techniques? Thanks
Tim

Hello:

The focus is on making sure that people can use their machines, so we can help with things like threading and tension adjustments and make sure you can stitch with it. But it’s not a class about garment construction or repair.

May I ask what sort of things you want to learn?

Thanks David for clarifying, im looking to learn how to repair and possibly to make garments. Honestly I picked up a sewing machine awhile back but never got to using it and im a little lost on where to start. Ive mostly been repairing tears by hand which is obviously time consuming

If you do bring your machine in we can make sure you know how to get set up and stitching with it. That’ll hopefully get you over the initial hump and make it easier to follow along with other materials, like YouTube videos.

It’s perfectly understandable if you don’t feel like hauling your machine to PS1 just for that, but it’s available if you think it might help.

I am starting a restoration of a Singer 66 and its table. If I attend could I get tips on refinishing it?

table… refinishing sounds like wood working, so yes, we have a
vibrant wood shop. Not the focus of the sewing machine maintenance
event, but please bring it all in.

What a work of art. I’m sure many will appreciate seeing it. I hope
you let us take pictures.
